Mpumi Mayisa
Bubblegum Gallery in collaboration with curator Mpumi Mayisa presented A Crescendo of Day Dreams, a group exhibition — as part of FNB Art Joburg from the 28th to the 31st of October 2021— featuring works from emerging artists; some of whom were recipients of the Bubblegum Gallery Residency, some transporting us outside of South Africa's borders, along with works from the Bubblegum Collective.
Featuring works across multiple mediums including: painting, sculpture, photography and mixed-media, the group show explored the intersecting space of daydreams and artistic practice; daydreams in the practice of art. Those open-ended worlds of possibility yet to be formed at the making of a mark. Presenting parallel worlds vivid in colour and unfiltered in their expression, A Crescendo of Day Dreams, meditated on materiality, imagination and restorations of sight.
